The future of Jammu and Kashmir can be decided today.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today convened a meeting of all party leaders on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the first meeting between central and local leaders since Article 370 was deleted. A high alert has already been issued in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of terrorist incidents.

On Thursday, the Gupkar Alliance of all party leaders in Jammu and Kashmir announced its decision to accept the invitation extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This information was given by the president of the alliance Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday. The decision was announced after a meeting at Abdullah’s Gupkar Road residence.

Fourteen leaders from eight parties have been invited for the meeting. This includes leaders of the PDP and the National Conference. Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah from the National Conference, Ghulam Nabi Azad from the Congress, Mehbooba Mufti from the PDP, Nirmal Singh from the BJP, Kavindra Gupta, Beg and Sajjad Lone from the People’s Conference, Marxist Communist Party leaders.

As per sources, key issues like outlining and assembly elections are likely to be discussed that may pave the way for the political processes in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting can also discuss a blueprint to begin the political process in the union.

Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami and JK Apni Party leader Altaf Bukhari are expected to attend the meeting.
