We should try and work on strategies that schools can be open: AIIMS Director

New Delhi: Dr. Randeep Guleria, Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), stated on Wednesday that active work on methods is needed to reopen schools that have been closed for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I personally feel that we should aggressively work on opening schools because it has really affected the young generation in terms of knowledge and especially the marginalized ones who can’t go,” said the AIIMS Director. School, according to the AIIMS Director, is a place where people grow via various activities. Students have been impacted by school closures, particularly those from low-income families who cannot afford degree schools. The subject of reopening schools has come up again as the number of COVID cases has decreased. When pupils can expect to return to physical education lessons, the central government was recently questioned. Schools can reopen after a large section of the population has been vaccinated against COVID-19, the administration announced Tuesday afternoon.

In March, educational institutions all around the country were shut and it has not opened since then.

Despite the fact that the central government has no plans to summon students back to school anytime soon, states such as Maharashtra and Telangana are preparing for a partial reopening.

On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asked the state Education Department to look into the possibilities of reopening schools and colleges for children in grades 10 and 12 in villages where COVID-19 incidents have not been reported.
