In a farewell thread, Twitter India chief Manish Maheshwari, who has been given a new role in the United States, posted multiple images with his colleagues at the social media giant’s office.
Mr Maheshwari had been targeted by the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh government after a run-in with the party at the national level earlier this year, including being served summons by the state police that were later overturned by a court.
“As I wrap up my duties at Twitter India, I’m at a loss for words to express my gratitude to my coworkers. During really trying circumstances, you have been a source of strength and inspiration for me “Mr. Maheshwari sent out a tweet. Twitter’s decision to summon him to the United States comes two months after the company expressed concern about the safety of its employees in India, following police visits to its offices in Delhi and Gurgaon as part of an investigation into the firm’s tagging of some BJP leaders’ posts as manipulated.
“I’ve learnt so much from everyone of you as we worked through this most trying chapter of our lives. We are a group of people who work together. We’re one big family “Mr. Maheshwari sent out a tweet.
This week, the opposition Congress party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi, attacked Twitter for censoring a message about the alleged rape and death of a 9-year-old child, accusing the social media company of playing partisan politics. Mr. Gandhi’s and the Congress’s accounts have been temporarily disabled.
