Telecom major Bharti Airtel and Tata Group on Monday announced a strategic partnership for implementing 5G networks solutions for India. As per the partnership, Bharti Airtel will pilot and deploy Tata’s technology as part of its 5G rollout plans. Airtel will start the pilot in January 2022.
Airtel will start original solutions projects in January 2022 as part of its 5G plans in India in accordance with government regulations, the statement said. According to the statement, these Made in India 5G products and solutions are compliant with global standards and inter-operate with standard open interfaces and other products as defined by the O-RAN Alliance. The 5G solution, once commercially proven across Airtel’s diverse and brownfield network, will open up export opportunities for India, which is now the world’s second largest telecom market.
Gopal Vittal, MD & CEO, (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel said, “We are delighted to associate with the Tata Group to make India a global hub for 5G and allied technologies. With its world-class technology ecosystem and talent pool, India is well positioned to build state-of-the-art solutions and applications for the world. This will give a massive boost to India to become an innovation and manufacturing destination.
Tata Group’s N. Ganapathy Subramaniam said that we are working together with Airtel on a 5G network and we are very excited about the possibilities associated with it. We are committed to building a world-class networking equipment and solutions business to address these opportunities in the networking space. We are happy to have Airtel as our customer in this initiative.
This is good news for India regarding the 5G network. Now India will have its own indigenous 5G network. The 5G network solution for India will be made in the country itself. Earlier this year, Airtel became the first telecom company in India to demonstrate 5G over its LIVE network in Hyderabad. The company has started 5G trials in major cities using spectrum allocated by the telecom department.
