Passengers travelling by air will now have to pay more fare. The reason is that the oil companies have increased the prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). Its prices have increased by 30% in the last 6 months.
What is ATF
Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is a kind of transmission fluid used in vehicles with self-shifting or automatic transmissions. It is typically coloured red or green to distinguish it from motor oil and other fluids in the vehicle.
- ATF was priced at 50,070 kiloliters in January. It is now 68,000.
- In Kolkata, ATF is priced above Rs 72,000.
- In Mumbai, it is Rs 66,483.
3.6% per kiloliter increase in Delhi
In the latest case, the price of ATF in Delhi saw an increase of 3.6% on Thursday. Due to this its price reached Rs 68 thousand 262 per kilo liter. In January, its price was Rs 50 thousand 979. Since then, oil companies have been increasing their prices continuously. Indian Oil Corporation said that it has increased the prices on Thursday. This company is the largest supplier of ATF.
Global oil prices are rising
The reason behind the rising ATF prices was that the oil prices are increasing continuously at the global level. That’s why oil companies have started raising prices here too. Its prices in Delhi have reached 68 thousand 262 rupees. In Kolkata it has increased by 3.27% to Rs.72 thousand 295 whereas in Mumbai it has increased by 3.77% to Rs.66,483. In Chennai too, its price is only 66 thousand 483 rupees.
Prices may increase further
According to the data, the prices of jet fuel may increase further. In January, the price of 50 thousand 979 per kiloliter had fallen to Rs 53 thousand 795 in February. In March, however, it again increased to Rs 59 thousand 400 and in April it reached Rs 58 thousand 374 per kiloliter. In May, it increased to Rs 61 thousand 690 while in June it had reached Rs 64 thousand 118.
Prices play an important role in the aviation industry
According to aviation experts, ATF prices play an important role in the Indian aviation industry. Ticket prices are decided on this ATF. If ATF prices remain the same then ticket prices may also go up. Passengers will have to pay for it. The number of passengers at Delhi airport is declining at the moment. This is happening due to the lockdown and travel restrictions.
