Education Minister declares 24 universities to be fake; the majority of them are from Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi, India: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Monday that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared 24 “self-styled” institutes to be bogus and found two more in breach of rules.

In response to a written question in the Lok Sabha, Mr Pradhan made the assertion.

“UGC has declared 24 self-styled institutes as bogus universities based on complaints from students, parents, the general public, and electronic print media.”In addition, two other institutes, Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) in Qutub Enclave, New Delhi, were discovered to be operating in contravention of the UGC Act, 1956. Commercial University Ltd, United Nations University, Vocational University, ADR Centric Juridicial University, Indian Institution of Science and Engineering, Vishwakarma Open University for Self Employment, and Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya are among the seven fraudulent universities in Delhi (Spiritual University).

West Bengal and Odisha each have two such universities. These include the Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research in Kolkata, as well as the Nababharat Shiksha Parishad in Rourkela and the North Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology in North Orissa.

Each of the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Maharashtra has a fictitious university. They are Puducherry’s Sree Bodhi Academy of Higher Education, Andhra Pradesh’s Christ New Testament Deemed University, Nagpur’s Raja Arabic University, Kerala’s St John’s University, and Karnataka’s Badaganvi Sarkar World Open University Education Society.

“The UGC distributes public notices regarding the list of fraudulent universities/institutes in national Hindi and English publications,” Pradhan added, elaborating on the procedures taken by the UGC against fake or non-recognized universities.
