John McAfee dies by suicide in Spanish prison, hours after he was granted extradition

John David McAfee, the founder of the eccentric antivirus software company McAfee, was found dead in his prison cell in Barcelona, Spain, on Wednesday, shortly after the country’s National Court approved his extradition to the United States to face criminal tax evasion charges, according to his lawyers. He could have been sentenced to at least 30 years in prison.

McFly has been living a nomadic life ever since. The United States has accused him of tax avoidance. He was later arrested at Spain International Airport in 2020. McFly’s case is being heard in a Spanish court. A day earlier, a Spanish court had ordered his handover to the United States.

The US Department of Justice has accused John McFly of not disclosing all of his assets. He had collected billions of rupees by promoting cryptocurrency, doing consulting work, giving lectures in many places and allowing documentaries on his life. However, he did not pay the tax. They found many loopholes. ‘ If convicted, McFly would face up to 30 years in prison.

John McFly has repeatedly denied the allegations. I have paid millions of rupees so far in the form of taxes. However, he asserted that his confession had been obtained through torture.

McAfee tweeted about the allegations from the jail

“The US believes I have hidden crypto. I wish I did but it has dissolved through the many hands of Team McAfee (your belief is not required), and my remaining assets are all seized. My friends evaporated through fear of association.  I have nothing. Yet, I regret nothing,” wrote McAfee on Twitter.
