The UGC has granted Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar 12-B status

The University Grants Commission has granted the Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar 12(B) status, allowing it to receive federal funds and engage in different research and academic activities (UGC). Receiving financing from the Center and other agencies requires 12(B) status. In a letter to the university’s registrar, the UGC stated, “The name of Rama Devi Women’s University has been placed in the list of universities under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956.”

In a meeting held on July 1, the varsity was granted 12(B) status based on the recommendations of the UGC Standing Committee members and the report of the UGC Expert Committee. Following the submission of a request for 12-B status by the RD varsity, the UGC Expert Committee visited the varsity on February 17 and 18, 2021 to review the proposal. The Expert Committee’s report, as well as the University’s compliance, was presented to the UGC’s Standing Committee.

The Committee evaluated the report and recommended to the University that 12-B status be granted. According to the current status, the committee has requested that the university participate in the NIRF ranking and obtain NAAC accreditation as soon as possible. The UGC committee further requested that the university maintain faculty strength in all departments in accordance with the relevant statutory council(s) and UGC guidelines. The varsity was founded in Bhubaneswar in 1964 as Government Women’s College and renamed Rama Devi Women’s College in 1969. Rama Devi Women’s Autonomous College was promoted to a university in May 2015.
