DELHI, NEW DELHI: According to an official source, the Centre has placed new vaccination orders at a revised price of Rs 215 for Covishield and Rs 225 for a dosage of Covaxin.“We are on track to fulfil our 50 crore doses objective by July 31, which is critical to meeting our target coverage by the end of the year,” added the senior official. Almost 40 crore dosages were given out across the country.
While the Centre has stated that 13.5 crore doses will be available in July, a new order of 66 crore doses for government procurement, as well as an additional advance payment made by the Centre to reserve 30 crore doses of Biological E’s Covid vaccine, are expected to improve supplies.
While the Centre previously purchased vaccines at a cost of Rs 150 per dosage, it has stated that it will review vaccine prices.
“Logistic management has to be linked at the production and availability at the field level, and while we understand states’ desire for more vaccine doses, we must also appreciate how the government of India is increasing production while ensuring that 75 percent of doses are given to states free of charge,” said Lav Agarwal, joint secretary of the health ministry.
