With Android 12, Google is killing this useful app: This is why

Android Auto for Phone Screens is now unavailable. Google Assistant’s Driving Mode was delayed; therefore the Android app was released in 2019. This function, on the other hand, began rolling out in 2020 and has since grown in popularity.

This release was intended to take the place of the phone screen experience. At the time, Google referred to this software as a “stopgap” for users who wanted an in-car experience but didn’t have an Android Auto-compatible vehicle. For some users, the Android Auto for Phone Screens software has already ceased operating.

According to a post on XDA Developers, some Google Pixel users running Android 12 are seeing the app skip the initial experience and instead display a message that reads, “Android Auto is now only available for car screens.

“Instead, use Google Assistant driving mode on your phone.” In a statement to 9to5Google, Google confirmed that the Android Auto for Phone Screens app will be discontinued with Android 12. On Android 12, Assistant Driving Mode will be “the built-in mobile driving experience,” according to the firm. “Starting with Android 12, the built-in mobile driving experience will be Google Assistant driving mode. We don’t have any further information to share at this time “According to reports, the corporation stated.

9to5 has a report on the situation. On a Pixel running Android 12 or a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 running Android 11, Google claims there is no notice. The app is still available on Google Play, but it says it isn’t compatible with Android 12 Pixel phones.
